Weston Manor is perfectly surrounded by awe inspiring country side. Walks to the needles and Tennyson downs are moments away from the Manor whilst Compton and Totland bay offer stunning coastline locations.
Compton is the islands most popular surf destination, with sprawling sandy beach, flanked by the white cliffs of Tennyson Down.
Freshwater is the nearest town with all the essentials, including some cracking fish'n'chips courtesy of Rainbow Fish'n'chip shop. Ten minutes north is Yarmouth. An old fishing town with a fantastic array of restaurants, pubs, and shops. Visit Salty's for delicious seafood and a local vibe. Watch out for ‘Salty’ at the bar drinking Guinness, he’s a character!
Totland bay
this beach is one of our local favourites. 15 - 10 minutes walk (depending on your previous evening) or a 5 minute drive.
shallow water extends at low tide which is great for young children to paddle and play. sandy for much of the year and facing the main mainland in a lagoon style shape, means calm waters and relative shelter compared to compton or other beaches. Yours truly in this pic with our two boys.
Tennyson Downs
Alfred Tennyson, 1st Baron Tennyson, 6th August 1809 – 6th October 1892) was Poet of Great Britain and Ireland during much of Queen Victorias reign and remains one of the most popular British poets. Tennyson Down is named after the poet Lord Tennyson who lived at nearby Farringford House for nearly 40 years. The poet used to walk on the down almost every day, saying that the air was worth 'sixpence a pint'.
It's a fairly steep climb but the views are well worth it. For a more bohemian experience, try reciting 'The Lotus Eaters' By Lord Tennyson. Just be sure to look out for cliff!
Bonchurch
30 minutes west along the coast from the manor is our hometown ventnor. full of great restaurants and an artistic local population, ventnor’s next door neighbour bonchurch, is your tolkien esq location for beaches woodland and village thats straight out of the early 1900s.
The needles - 15 minutes by car
If you walk to Tennyson downs and head west you'll come to the famous needles landmark. the Attraction is accessible by car and is approximately 15 minutes away.
